But there's an intimacy to Crystal Endeavor that you won't find on the bigger vessels, which is its own type of luxury. Royal Caribbean Group also acquired another former Crystal Cruises ship, Crystal Endeavor, which joined the Silversea Cruises fleet as Silver Endeavour. In January 2018, Crystal Yacht Cruises announced significant changes to the new ship design, downsizing the initial "EXCLUSIVE Class" (Genting Cruise Lines ships) and removing from the original design the top-deck private residences. The announcement said that Star Cruises together with the German companies Petram Beteiligungs, Ehlerding Beteiligungs, and BLG Logistics Group entered into a stock purchase agreement that allows GHK to acquire a majority stake in Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven GmbH. Before the agreement's announcement, Genting signed a letter of intent with the shipbuilding company for Crystal's new polar-class ships scheduled for deliveries in 2018-Q4 (later pushed back to 2019).

Both ships underwent extensive refurbishments before their relaunch, with newly redesigned specialty restaurants and spa and fitness areas and a reconfiguration of its staterooms to create a larger number of more spacious suites. This reduced the guest capacity of Crystal Serenity to 740 from 980 and Crystal Symphony to 606 from 848. In this new era for Crystal, the cruise line’s medium-sized ships are now sailing with passenger counts typically found on small-luxury vessels. The cruise line’s new owner is London-based A&K Travel Group, whose majority stakeholder is luxury cruise pioneer Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, the founder of Silversea, which was sold to Royal Caribbean Group several years ago. The new Crystal currently features just the two luxury ocean ships (the former Crystal Cruises’ river ships and an expedition vessel were acquired by different buyers), but A&K Travel Group has revealed plans to build four additional ships by 2029.
World Cruisers had a special lounge in the PortMiami terminal, complete with a red carpet, fresh flowers and Champagne. As with most World Cruises – Royal Caribbean’s aside – the demographic is decidedly in the Boomer category; while internet on ships has gotten better, thanks to Starlink, most people we’ve met are retired. Many Crystal regulars like the liveliness of the line's bigger vessels, where the large array of venues means that there always seems to be something going on, from dance classes to comedy shows. They also like the broad array of options when it comes to things like dining (Crystal Serenity boasts 10 different dining concepts, some sharing the same spaces) and even room types. The recent unveiling of Crystal Endeavor -- the new luxury expedition ship from Crystal Cruises -- marks a major turning point for the line, which many industry watchers consider the ultimate luxury cruise brand. A nine-night voyage from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Miami departing Nov. 23 starts at $3,800 per guest based on double occupancy, according to the line's website, but prices vary by cruise and room category, and include food and drinks on board. Crystal Cruises reportedly shut down at least its U.S. operations last year after an arrest warrant had been issued for the Crystal Symphony because of unpaid fuel bills.
A rep for the line says Crystal has upgraded the Serenity’s suites, improved the onboard spa, revamped the gym, and even added a pickleball court. If you’re sailing on Crystal Cruises’ yacht, Crystal Esprit, Crystal Cruises’ Expedition ship, Crystal Endeavor, or a Crystal Cruises river ship, some shore excursions are included. However, if you’re sailing on a Crystal Cruises ocean ship, shore excursions will come with an additional charge. With Crystal Cruises you won’t find mega-ships like Royal Caribbean or discount party ships like Carnival. What you will find are luxury ocean and river ships along with a yacht and an expedition ship. At the end of a performance when presenting to guests the following day's activities and events – or sometimes some very challenging upcoming situations, I pull from my stand-up experience to bring light, vivacity, and hopefully some laughter to the situation.
